71A's - Used
7/5/2009 11:23:46 PMLou
Hello:

Anyone have some good used '71A audio output tubes they are willing to part with? I need two.

They come dear new ( 35.00 each! ).

I will pay $$ - just trying to keep my hobby on a budget!!

Thanks All

Lou

Lou: You've got the right idea going for used tubes, particularly of that vintage.

You can usually find them on eBay by searching "71A tubes" or "171A tubes". If you keep your eyes open, you will eventually find a pair for a reasonable price.

My guess is that good used '71As will usually go for about $15+. You might find them a bit cheaper at an antique radio swap meet?

Thanks Doug

Well if anyone has any on the net I am buying. I have a few sources I am going to check out this week from the Antique Radio Classified.

This is all to restore an RCA model 60 superhet. There are NINE TUBES in this one - seven 27's , one '71Am and one type 80 rectifier - talk about a boon for the tube manufacturer!!

Hello Lou,
I came across a couple of 71s in my boxes, but right now, they are of questionable quality. I also have probably more than enough 27s and a few 80s, if needed. I can do simple testing of all of them on my Jackson 648 to see there's any apparent life. If they test OK, I'll let you know and I'll let the whole mess go at a reasonable price (cheap), since I don't have any need for the 71s or that many 27s.

Thanks

Let me know what you find.

Bad news on the 71s. One had an open filament and the other tested very weak, barely moved the needle. However I do have good testing 27s and a good 80. If interested in these, e-mail me at mushroom1 (at)mindspring.com.

All I really needed was the '71As.

If you would like to part with the weak one, put a price on it and let me know.I wouls also be interested in the 80.

I'll put it all together and figure out what postage would be (probably Priority Mail, flat rate)and give you a total. If it looks good, e-mail me with the particulars. Probably won't get it figured out until tomorrow. Not enough time after work...

I have used 5aq5 tubes in place of 71a. Make an adaptor socket and tie cathode of 5aq5 to heater pin.

:You also need to connect the screen grid to plate on 6aq5.

Lou,
I can send you both for $20 (this includes shipping by Priority Mail). Insurance ($50 worth) is an extra $1.75. I'd prefer postal m.o. for simplicity and safety.

If still interested , e-mail me the necessaries at mushroom1@mindspring.com.

Thanks

Even the one weak '71A will get me started on troubleshooting the Model 60.

Thanks
