Go to "Fun With Tubes" on the internet, will give you a very good starting point.

Our city public library still has books on tube-based electronics.
Solid state through the ages also, if you desire.

Hi Lisa, I don't want to sound like I'm promoting this site but I was completely thrilled with the information he provided. If you contact Bret via email at bretsoldradios@att.net he sells a 4 DVD set on how to rebuild and restore old radios that last approx 10 hours. He has a really good deal if you buy all 4 DVD's but you can get one at a time. They were the best thing I bought and helped more than any book I read. After viewing the DVD's I was able to understand the books much better. He goes through the electronics, cabinet repair, refinishing, wood, plastic, bakelite, and more. Any newbie should have these to reference. Also if you go to You Tube and put in radio repair there are all kinds of how to stuff to watch, Bret even has some stuff on. Best 2 U, George T
