Silvertone Model #6151 ( I think)
2/20/2001 6:11:23 PMJeff S
I picked this radio up at a sale and cleaned it up, It was dirty but not in bad shape, only the back cover is missing if it had one. It does work, but it won`t pick up very well on the low end of the For band. Seems to work ok on AM band. Does anyone know anything about this radio.Like when it was made?? Or some of the history of them?? It has 2 bands, Am and For, on/off with hi and lo tone, tuning, and a volume knob. Also has a "Magic Eye" tube visible in the top portion of the dial.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff, The Silvertone was made in 1939 by Sears Roebuck. It does have an eye tube so hopefully you've got the right model. There were two chassis versions used, ch 101.556 and ch 101.556-1. I'll email the schematics to you, they have the date marked on them. Don Black.

Thank You Don, yes it is a 101.556 I assumed this was a serial number you had to give when you ordered parts from sears... it is on a small metal plate on the back of the radio. It is a neat little radio, has all the parts there as far as I can tell and for it to be that old is in good shape. I had no idea it was that old!!! Also the tubes that I can see, are silvertone brand,all-tho a few of them have somekind of a metal cover on them so I can not see them. I need to take the radio out of the box and try to clean it up inside somehow.
Again, Thank You.
Regards
Jeff
