German radio question for Ferrite antenna attachment
6/19/2009 11:38:46 AMAdamC
I've been trying to work on a Grundig 3192U, and the ferrite antenna for AM, is attached to the mounting posts by what looks like rubber belts. These flat belts have long since dried and crumbled. This let the ferrite rip free of the monting and took the thin wires with it.. I've measured the pieces and have determined that it was a flat rubber belt 4mm wide, 1mm thick and 16mm inside diameter. Approx 5/8 id and 3/16thick. I'm guessing using silicone O rings would work. I think that standard rubber O rings would melt wit the heat.. Am I on the right track ?

Sir Adam:

I can certainly see the original being subjected to a drying out, shrinking and hardening to become "rock city" in its past decades.
Should you even try neophrene, it has its limitations also, BUT if you can find the sizing needed in silicone rubber, then
you can be fully expecting a half life of 2 eons.

(and 16mm ? ? ? inside diameter)

. . . . .thats about the full O.D of the loop rod right ?

Edd, The rod is 12 mm, and attaches to a 'U' shaped holder. the bands go around this holder. One on each end.. I did find a bag of 5/8 ID and 1/8 thickness silicone O rings from Grainger.. I'll try these..
Now I will be able to try to repair the hair fine AM loop wires that were damaged when the ferrite broke off the mount...

Sir Adam:

Also. . . or additionallly. . . . one also sees these white nylon clamps, used on either end, should that be mechanically possible / compatible.
