As Norm suggested, measure the voltages at all the tube pins. Compare to specs: http://www.atwaterkent.info/TechData/Drawings/Images/AK14900sch.pdf

AND, you need to ensure that the tuning of the unit is on track. If you are losing tracking between capacitors, you will lose a LOT of volume.

:hi,don't forget about the local/distant switch,corrosion here will cut out the first tube reducing volume greatly.
