Cleaning band switches

How do you clean band switches, wafer type? I've tried using cotton swabs but leaves lots of fibers and what to put on the swab? Years ago I got some green guu from a professional tuner company called PTS but 'am fast running out. It worked really good. A small can has lasted me years.

Spray contact cleaner works well. Work the switch a bunch of times while doing so. That green tuner lube is stll avalable. I use that too.

I use just plain old rubbing alcohol...Buy it for $.089 at Walmart..I squirt it on and work the switch..I use this to clean ALL my switches...works great..and evaporates quickly leaving no greasy residue or other

Thanks,

Excessive soaking of the wafer discs with cleaning solution can induce undesirable capacitance between the contacts...that's what I've heard. A cleaner like rubbing alcohol which evaporates quickly is probably more desirable than detoxit or similiar products.

John,
I've used silverware dip solution (most drug/groc stores) w/cotton swabs, but needs water rinse to stop the chemical action. A small cellulose sponge would avoid the cotton fibers.

DeoxIT works well, but use the one in the little bottle with the brush applicator (like nail polish). That way you avoid getting spray all over the wafer boards which is not a good thing. It's pricey but a little goes a long way. If the contacts are hard to reach, you can also apply a little to the tip of a pipe cleaner and work it around.
