Need Philco 46-250 Code 125 Data
5/22/2009 6:36:33 PMJohnny
Hi all,

I find the 46-250 code 121 here on NA. My tube compliment doesn't match this. Then I notice the label on the bottom of my set and it is a code 125 46-250.

Does anyone know where to get the 125 code material for this set?

Thank you,
Johnny

Hi Johnny

Philco 46-250 is listed a being in Sam's Photofact #2-12. Doesn't mention code number.

What tubes are different in your radio. Philco would change between octal and loctal but circuit would remain the same. Only pin numbers and tube sockets were different.

Schematic shows Same but may be different socket
50L6GT-------------50A5
7C6----------------14B6, 12SQ7
7B7----------------14A7, 6SS7, 12SK7
7A8----------------14Q7, 12SA7
35Z5GT-------------35Y4, 35Z3

These are just some tubes that will work. There are minitures and others.

:Hi Norm,
:My line up is:
:50B5-Miniature
:7C6-Loctal
:7B7-Loctal
:7A8-Loctal
:35Y4-Loctal Rectifier
:I'm also noticing some other differences between the 46-250 and my code 125 set. For instance C-19 .02ufd cap on the schematic goes from the 50L6GT pin 3 and T4 to circuit ground. My C-19 in the set goes from one leg of the volume pot to pin 5 of the 50B5 and T4 doesn't come into play. I haven't pulled the tube data on the 50L6 and 50B5 tubes yet so the plate may be pin 5 on the 50B5. Then it would make a little more sense seeing how the leg on the volume pot does go to circuit ground. Let me pull some tube data before I get too excited. Better look at T4 again to.

I've never worked on this type of radio (No power XSFR & one leg of A/C being circuit ground) so I'd better do some more homework.
Thanks Norm,
Johnny

Here is a very good link to look up tube pin base and useful informaation

A 50B5 is the miniature version of 50L6GT. Use Warren's information to determine pin locations.

And would this be Ye Olde 46-250 Philco in question, wherein it stuck around until about “48-250”.

PeeEss. . .and you got’s to watch out for that HOT chassis-is-es-es, as you get a hand on it and your “fluorescent lamp”. . .you might be in trouble.

:Where do you guys come up with this stuff? That schematic is my radio. And yes, this is my first radio of this nature. Return/neutral of A/C is actually "circuit ground" in this radio. No power xsfmr either. I've read alot of threads here on NA that address this exact setup and I hope my awareness of the shock hazard involved with this set is better then my flourescent light troubleshooting skills.

Thanks folks,
Johnny
