Need Schematic for 1965 T-Bird Radio TOB5TBS
5/7/2009 12:31:54 AMBrianC
I am restoring an AM/FM radio in a '65 T-Bird. Sounds like the final audio output stage is working, but no stations on either band. My power supply voltage drops off 5 volts when I turn the radio on. I am looking for a schematic for this model, TOB5TBS. Any help would be appreciated.

Have repaired 64 65 66 Mustang radios. AM only though.
If you don't have the print just yet, might look over the printed circuit board for open ground connections.
Have also found open germanium transistors in some. Easy to check with just an ohm meter even in circuit. This is just a start to do without the schematic.

The SAMS Index lists a model# T0B5TBC. Not sure if this model would be close enough to yours (only the last letter is different).

It's detailed in their Auto Radio series book AR-33. I don't happen to have that volume but perhaps another forum member, or your public library, does.

TOB5TBC is for 1965 Continental, but is essentially the same as TOB5TBS (65 T-Bird). TOB5TBS is in Sams AR-32. Both radios are covered in the same Bendix service manual with minor electrical differences.

Brian,
I would mail you a photocopy of the Bendix manual if you wish to email me your mailing address. There are 2 small electrolytic capacitors on the main circuit board that are known to be suspect. One; a 60mfd axial at 3 volts is located near the volume control; the other; a 50mfd radial at 3 volts is located inboard from the antenna socket.

These radios also use 5 PC component modules--good luck if one of them is bad. You would have to create the equivalent out of separate components.

Sir Brian:

Supplied herewith is that TOB5TBC info. With the most common need to be a pound of solder , a STROOOONG magnifying
glass and an inspection of ALL solder joints and interfacing of ground planes around the PCB’s and to the metal chassis
member. (And the sheet metal screw connections to same).

The schema has the markups of electrolytics and one Zener regulator for the B+.

If insurmountable problems. . . . . come back to us with your findings and what you have in your test equipment stable.
