2/7/2001 8:02:42 PMAdam
I have just come into owning a Lafayette shortwave radio and can not figure out what model it is. Does anyone know of any sites w/ a LOT of pics of all the different models?

I have been to every page i can find and i dont see the one i have. Mine is a wooden table top tube unit. It has a glass oval and 4 knobs along the bottomof the glass oval. the glass and knobs are on the right side and the speaker is on the left. The glass has 3 bands painted on it in red, blue and green. and a picture of a town or something on it!!!!
under all that it says Lafayette.
Anyone know what i have? or where i can find pics so i know what i have????

Thanks adam

Hi,

Your description sounds like one of the "D-** series. Radio Mania's book "Machine Age to Jet Age II", has a few listed, but your description imlies that the knobs on yours are in a straight row. Their coverage is not complete, I have a variant of the D-14 that does not have the tone stripe all the way down, it stops at the dial glass.

Your best bet is to look through books and old Lafayette catalogs.

You might find some progress with the tube layouts.

Hi,

There are several models in "Machine Age to JetAge II", D-15, D-16, D-28, D-31, are four that are in the book. Only the D-31 has a tuning eye, but thee were kits that allowed those to be added so it is not an absolute guarantee of that model, the other three are very similar.

Hi,
I think I have this same radio. I need a picture to see what the knobs look like.
Bes thing to do is to get old Lafayette catalogs from the 30s and look it up.
