Zenith K731 Chassis 7M07, Electrostatic tweeter repair question..
5/4/2009 12:31:03 PMAdamC
Hi ! I've been working on this radio, and it appears the tweeter does not have any output.. Looks like it cannot be dissassembled. Any fixes ? Sounds good without tweeter, but would like to have it all working..Zenith must have used this in many different models...

Any thoughts ?

Hi Adam,
I recently went through an "EMUD" German radio that used the electrostatic tweeter speakers. Mine also had no output. Turned out to be the material used to back-up the diaphram with...it's like a styrofoam material...over the years becomes so brittle it will just disintegrate to the touch. Also found poor (green) connections of the membrane material for the diaphram - at the point of connection. I used a 1/4" thick piece of shipping styrofoam to replace the disintegrated stuff with...and just cleaned the diaphram connections up. Worked fine!
Good luck with your speakers ( I wasn't aware of Zenith using the electrostatic tweeters in sets)

Joe
