Keep the posts on topic
4/19/2009 10:46:35 AMNostalgia Air
Some of you may notice that several posts are missing from the forums. Some of the posts contained useful information. Unfortunately they also contained content unrelated to the restoration of antique radio's and often of a more personal nature.

I do not have the time to review every post made and remove only those that are offensive or inappropriate. When things are called to my attention I remove threads containing content that does not belong here.

This is an antique radio discussion forum. Please keep your personal differences private. If you have differeing opinions on restorations or techniques please discuss the technical merits of your positions and refrain from personal attacks.

Nostalgia Air's forums will not go private. I will however shut them down permanently if the personal attacks continue.

As much as I love antique radio's I do not have the time to babysit the forums reading every post to see that it is appropriate. I expect a certain level of garbage from folks with no interest in antique radios, however I do not expect garbage from those who are here to find and to share technical expertise.

Keep it polite, keep it close to on topic and refrain from personal attacks or the ability to post to the forums WILL be shut off.

Richard:
I have said on seveeral occasions about a forum I was on, this one about Diesel locomotives, that was enjoyed by many people, just like this one, that was shut down by just two people who got into something much less than what has been happining here. I would hate to lose this site, but there comes a time when, if the children will not behave, you must send to bed and close the play room. I would surely hate to see this happen, but, as I said, I've seen it done before.

I have been using this site for a number of years. The free information and expertise that is on this site is fantastic. It is a shame that a few individuals may shut this site down for all of us. It’s hard for me to understand how someone can obtain satisfaction in negative acts. Unfortunately there are people out there like that. Look at all the computer viruses.

Hi Richard and all form members
The economy is down with a lot of frustrated people who sometimes raise havoc on others.

I am frustrated too as my job has been effected causing lack of work. To deal with my frustrations I chose to do something positive.

With free time on my hands and not able to locate work I decided to work on a radio that was torn apart several years ago, parts scattered the search went on until all parts were found. I studied schematics and pictures all the while thinking I do not have the technical ability to do this.

Gloom fell on my shoulders, as I was certain this idea was going to fail.

A last resort I began reading the forms on Nostalgia Air, at first I was thinking of asking for help in having form members help me put my radio back together.

As I began reading topics I saw some were asking form members to do their work however quite a few members were just stuck and needed advice. Surprising to me a lot of people are willing to help those who are willing to make an effort regardless of their background.

My decision was to put forth effort and finish what I started with out someone taking on the task of overcoming my hurdle.

During assembly of my radio I had to shrug feelings its never going to work.
When frustrations peaked I read into the forms, this reminded me people like me who are trying their best.

The radio was completed and powered, to my surprise it played a coupled of stations.

I wrote this for the following reasons,

First I want to thank Richard at Nostalgia Air for providing a place of value, which does attract good people.

Second I wish to thank all who visit the forms and participate providing a wealth of knowledge and encouragement.

Third, parties who tend to disrupt the forms do not have depth of understanding in what the forms are really about and providing. To acknowledge them starts a game putting form members on their level. It is best just to go on with business ignoring disruptive attempts. No attention no attraction.

Forth, disagreements are valid I have taken my foot out of my mouth on several occasions and benefited looking at a different point of view.

Fifth,
With pressure on my shoulders to provide for my family and falling into despair I was able to step aside for a brief while and focus on a project that I was able to finish.
Nostalgia Air and its form members gave the support necessary for me to overcome my task and feel a sense of accomplishment and pride greatly needed for me to move forward.
For me good form members are more abundant and out weigh some of the creepy comments that lurk from time to time, although I posted no comments during that time reading became quite important.

To all whether you know it or not thanks for your wonderful support and that Nostalgia Air may continue even through the tough times.

With Gratitude
Larry

I like this sight as well as anyone that does post here.
If some kid or silly adult is playing around, do not reply to any of that. When you do, they only do it again and again.

Richard:
The well intended "good" participants of this wonderful forum are only victims of the recent rude attackers.

There are evil people everywhere sadly...

I believe Richard, that all it would take is registration to avoid the garbage.

If implementing a registration step is workable and is not a burden or cost for you perhaps it would help.

I'm with Peter on this one. I believe registration is the way to go. I'm afraid that it's just a matter of time before a certain individual becomes comfortable again and starts these attacks all over again. It did happen before when you brought it to the attention of the Forum posters. He seems to target certain posters and I really can't fault them to responding to a personal attack. And he does impersonate others when he chooses to do so. Registration might curb that. Hate to see this Forum closed because of the actions of just a few. It's a great venue and stands apart from other Forums since it primarily focuses on technical issues. Hate to see one person ruin it for the rest. The majority here appreciate your effort in hosting this site and would hate to see it go.

Best regards,

Ken Walsh

The only problem with registering is it’s so easy to use a fake name to get another e-mail account. It only takes a few minutes. The only way to be sure is to verify through snail mail and no one wants to go through that.

:Seems to work very well on the Antique Radio Forum, that has heavier traffic than here, coupled with a valid password and visible IP address. Eliminates the ever present imposter posts that are frequent here.

No problem Brett. You'll have to register before you can post. 80)

I have to echo the sentiments of others on this site. I have always found it to be an excellent resource and have great admiration for the expertise and freely given advice found here. I have absolutely no patience for those that intrude in an attempt to disrupt a forum that provides so much to so many. I am presently working in the Middle East (due to age and economic circumstances) and am away from family, home and hobby. This forum has provided me with an invaluable connection and anchor to my radio restoration passion which keeps me grounded and focused in the midst of distance from home and total culture immersion.
I thank all those that contribute and express my ultimate disdain for those that seek to destroy this valued knowledge base through their ignorance as well as lack of common decency and civility.

To lose this site would be a huge loss of information sharing..
I think many of us have very few other resources to call on for the great information shared here because of our remote location from other inthusiasts. I am a member of a radio club but my nearest member is 50 miles away. Personal one-on-one is great if you have someone to help you but if you do not then here is a great place to get help. I wished there were some method short of registration to effectively block the abusers once that have posted..
I posted that original "how old are you" question and
it was great to relate to all of you and why you got into this hobby. Hope we can continue here.
