Hi all, i've enjoyed using my tv about 5 times over the past month, with no major problems, exept the fuse problem. However today when I tried to power it up for company, it blew a fuse, (after replacement) powered up all tubes lit, but a horizontal line appeared followed by arcing in the 6v6 vert. output, and a bad smell from the back of chassis. I immediately powered off, and tested the 6v6, and the 6sn7 Vert. multiVibrator. they both test good. all resistances check ok, cathode is 200ohms less than normal. The 470ohm cathode resistor is blackened and only 270 ohms. What could cause this resistor to burn but not blow the fuse? Should I just replace it and try to turn it on?

Thanks
Ian

Replace the risistors and the 6V6 vertical output tube. The tube may test good, but if it was arcing it's bad. May have been your fuse problem all along.

Hi, the 6v6 was gassy and probably was the entire problem. The picture is near perfect with the new tube. The only problem is that the sound is distorting the audio. It is not vibrations.
the only thing that I can think of is the limiter (in the audio section) tube a 6sh7, tests low (57/100). could this cause the distortion?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Ian

Yeah, if that tube is weak it very well could cause some audio problems .. If the audio has a distortion that seems to change with the video. Might just need to adjust the Quad coil. That's where the audio and video is taken off. That's just a could be.

The audio is not distorted, the picture has distortion that is controlled by the audio. What is this quad coil that you mention? Is it the coil from grid to ground of the limiter?

The Quad coil would only adjust the video buzz from the audio. If you are now saying you have some audio beating in the video, might be the tuner oscillator is off a little. Check the tubes in the tuner, if good might just rock the tuners oscillator some and see if that clears it up. The I.F. could cause this as well. May check all the I.F. tubes while you are at it. If all those tubes are good, may rock the last I.F. a little see if that does it. Be careful if you rock any of the other I.F. cans, as you could make matters worse. A sweep alignment would be a good thing if you have a marker generator.
