Dial String angst

Nothing like trying to re-string a radio (Pilot B3)for which you cannot find a diagram.

Usually I can follow the old one... but in this case the one who strung it before really did it wrong which is why I had to do it anyway...lol

Well so I try to figure it out... shouldn't be too hard... well..

I decide to find one that looks close in the dial-stringing website...

Okay.. got one.

Spend at least an hour or two ( remember I only have one reasonably good hand ...and a little bit of some clumsy pinching ability on the right hand ...lol)

So... Lots of tape here and there to hold everything in place while stringing...
Ahh... finally got it.

Adjust the spring to make it perfect and not slip.

Test it out... YES!!! it works... Great.

But... only to find out at the end... the whole operation is reversed...lol !!!!

The condenser decreases value to higher stations on the dial... while the pointer goes to the lower end.

OMG...

well I guess it was a 50-50 chance...right?
And I lost.

START all over again.

Finally I find another but "close-looking" stringing diagram and I really think it through...
Do the whole tape thing again and finally achieve success.

But isn't that the way stuff happens in this delightfully.. frustrating... hobby?...lol

Hi Peter, I did one once upon a time and used a very light!! coat of spray adhesive on the string and it work rather well. If you wipe it with something it will get tacky and not glue itself to itself. Good Luck, George T.

Hi George:

Thanks but..I'd be a little concerned using any adhesive.

Because after the cord is in place it actually works properly when it can glide smoothly on all surfaces... especially the dial wheel on the tuning condenser. That grooved surface should be shiny smooth.
As the cord reaches it's extremes the tension actually tugs on the cord allowing slight slippage along the wheel stretching the spring a little at each extreme.
