Other Places To Find Grille Cloth?
3/9/2009 6:15:42 PMJohnny
So there's Antique Electronic Supply (OUTRAGEOUS PRICES), grillecloth.com and Radio Daze. Are there any other places that have antique radio grille cloth for sale?

Lataly I've been going to the local fabric store and finding some pretty nice patterns for my radios. And they look pretty good when installed. For $8 I got enough cloth to do several consoles and alot of table tops. What if one wants something original? Not too many places out there any more.

Any new places to buy cloth would be great.

Thanks, Johnny

:Mr. Berg, My emails keep coming back as if your address isn't working. Have you had any problems with your email? Wanted to talk about cloth.
Thanks, Johnny

Johnny,
You're right. A few Philco's, RCA's, a Majestic and I've been unable to find original matches for any of them. The many that are offered may be original patterns/colors on Zenith or other high end radios, but none of mine. I refuse to pay a premium for something close, when I can get something close at the local fabric store, and no shipping charges. I concentrate in the upholstery (read open weave) area, looking for remnants on the cheap.

I don't find their grill cloth to be expensive. It's custom made, and it looks like it belongs on a radio. Unless the upholstery you find in a sewing shop looks like it belongs on a radio, I'd rather pay for real radio speaker cloth.

:Original grille cloth is great Mike. But some of that stuff comes out to $45 a yard. Especially at AES. If you don't think that's expensive then I guess you didn't mind paying $4 a gallon for gas either. lol
