Crosley 50-P

Trying to get my Crosley 50-P one tube set going for the first time since given to me years ago by my late uncle. Can't get it to regenerate. With filament at full throttle, 22.5v on plate, good ant. and gnd., I could just make out the 10kw talk station 20 miles away. Tried the 2 and 3 meg grid leaks that came with it. Accompanying "manual" sez try without; I did, and now I can make out a few words; but still no regen. No shorts in tube; filament draws 100ma. wide open. Manual sez the radio takes either a WD-12 or C-12 tube. The one that's in the set is unmarked. Figured before I try something drastic, I would seek input from those of you with more experience than I in fixing sets this old. Thanks in advance for your ideas.
Sure hope it's not the tube.

Not sure what tube you are using but WD12 (RCA)& C12 (Cunningham) draw .25 amps filament current.

What voltage do you have on the large pins? The WD12 requires 1.1 volts. The tube should have straight sides, not pear shape. Other tubes will work but require different filament voltage.
