Airline 14BR-729A ~Hummm repair

Hi, I recapped an Airline 14BR-729A radio and it worked fine except the dynamic speaker was toast. I installed a PM speaker with 2 - 1000 ohm wire wound 25 watt resistors in parallel to get 500 ohms and run cooler. This was to take the place of the speaker coil. Well the radio worked but had a hum. The 2 electrolytic caps were 20 mfd so I replaced them with 2 - 22 mfd's and the hum got much better but was still there. So I took 4 - 16 mfd's, at 450 volts each and paralled them to get 32 mfd's each and replaced both of the 22 mfd's. I heard somewhere that you can go 80 percent above a caps value. Well the hum is completely gone and the radio has excellent sound. Is this an exceptable fix, (presidential solution). I figure there are better solutions to this but just used what I had on hand. I might look around for a 500 ohm choke I heard that would work also. I would appreciate your thoughts on this repair. Best 2 U, George T.

OOPS E Daisy!! I just noticed the original electrolytic caps were 2 - 16 mfd cap. So I went 100% higher, that can't be good. I guess I will wait until I hear from you guys before I play it again.

The old speaker field coil was also a filter choke in the power supply. Without that now you will need more filtering. If it's working good with what you have done, I see no harm in that. You could use a frame type filer choke if you would like to, but if there is no noticeable hum as it is now, leave it alone and play it.
