Yeah. I would say the tone control is very dirty or has an internal problem. May as well take it apart, clean it up good. Test the disk and the wiper contacts on both the center contact, and where it rides the disk.
:I just noticed the speaker paper is split.replacement speaker or recone?

Hi Robert,
:Yeah, the speaker may need re-coning or replacement. Often times you can repair the "split". I've done it using nothing more than tissue paper and shellac. But, this won't answer your problem with the tone. Tone control may need to be taken apart, cleaned/adjusted or worse case-replaced. Make sure the resistance readings are accurate across control from wiper. Good Luck.

Hey Rob,
Actually you can find the schematic for this set right at this site under Resources. I just looked at it and it's calling for a 50K control. (R25) Schematic isn't that great, but it'll do if you scrunch your eyes!
:::Hey Joe , Thanks for the tip. If I have to replace the pot .is it a 100k 1/2 watt audio pot? thanks rob.
:::
::The pot is a LINEAR, not audio. Otherwise, sounds good.

:HI, yes .Ifound some resistors need to be replaced, carbon comps are reconizable. What do I replace the hollow tube resistors with ? Thanks...Rob
::
::Rob: I know the ones you are referring to. Unless someone knows more about them, I don't see any reason why you can't replace them with a regular carbon resistor of the same wattage. Mark from Kalamazoo
:And, of course, the same ohms! The are all 1/2 watt except R36,R37,and R38 according to my schematic.
