Best to bring it up with a Variac, and watch the B+, keeping it below spec.
If and when you hit it with full line voltage, make sure the line switch is in the 120-V position.

:Hi all,
:I've got a Zenith model 11-E with same tube lineup as a Radiola 17. problem is, no power supply. I do have the Radiola 17 (junker) and am thinking about trying to use it. Is there a problem with powering up the Radiola supply with no load?? I'd like to check voltages before attempting to tie in the Zenith. Any help much appreciated.

:With the rectifier installed, bringing it up unloaded will result in the voltages being quite a bit higher that normal, particularly the B+. This will put added strain on the filter caps. It may or may not cause harm, but it won't be good for it.
