picture bleed and bloom
2/15/2009 3:50:57 PMSteve
I have an '85 Zenith system 3, 25" color tv. The colors bleed (red, blue, green) during times of high intensity and minor picture blooming. Any thoughts as where to start?
Thanks
Steve

A set that old may have a weak picture tube. Try and adjust the screen bias control, and the Red Green Blue controls for best performance without being so bright.

Your local library may have the Sams Photofact that would cover adjustment procedures and precautions of this model. Try entering your model # in www.samswebsite.com for the folder #. Most sets of this era already had built-in degaussers, but many times the thermistor controlling it would open. Try manually degaussing the screen by waving a soldering gun's transformer across it. High voltage problems can cause bloom. Give the insides a good dusting out.

Thanks Warren,
I was afraid of that. The set isn't worth the repair cost. However, I'll try adjusting down the the bias and/or drivers. I've seen it before in older sets. It's probably a combo problem. I guess I just needed someone to confirm my suspicions.
Regards
Steve
Just wish I hadn't gotten rid of all those old sets sitting around my house.
