Hi Folks.
I have just put back together a Philco 37-60. It works just fine except for a noise when tuning between stations. ( Noise is not a hum but sounds like heavy static)When on the station the noise disapears and the audio is good. The same noise is there with the radio switched off and using signal tracer at the grid of tube 1. Is this normal or is something wrong. Any advice please,
Frank. Doncaster England.
I am not one of the experts on this site, but I have had similar situations and once I did an alignment the static between stations went away. Have you done a full alignment?
Ron
If the radio statics while turning the tuning cap, you may need to clean the spring contact(s) between the rotor and stationary part of the tuning capacitor. Below is a link showing tuning capacitors and in the one on the left you can see the bronze or copper/bronze spring contacts between the two sections. If the contact springs are dirty it can cause noise while tuning.
