Hello, this Zenith console(1940) that I am purchasing has the speaker missing, I do have a few other old consoles with speakers, am I able to substitute one to work on this Zenith, assuming I can connect the wires?

Dave: I assume you are referring to the Zenith chassis number 5808 which was used in models 8-S-443, 8-S-451, and 8-S-463. If so, you'll need to find one with a 1250 ohm field coil, and preferably a hum bucking coil. See: http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/449/M0025449.pdf for connection details. Zenith speakers also pop up on eBay fairly often. You could also use a permanent magnet (PM) speaker and sub the field coil with a power resistor with 1250 ohms and a choke. It might be necessary to increase the second filter cap value if you have too much hum. You may also need to do some impedance matching to get optimum sound depending on what you replace it with.
