Radiola 18 filter reactor

Good moring!

I'm working on a Radiola 18.
Two of the cans on the power unit were loose. Obviouslly someone had
been tampering with it.

This unit is packed with the black tar/wax.
What does the this unit do?

I checked the units inside the block with my meter and got a reading
on all four wires.

I'm newbie when it comes to the Radiola 18. The schemetic doesn't help.

Mark: My Westinghouse WR-8 uses the same chassis as the Radiola 82 and the filter reactor is simply a choke. Resistance values are given on the schematic so that you can check it with a meter to see if it is shorted or open. The filter reactor along with the filter caps helps to smooth out the DC power and reduce hum. Mark from Kalamazoo

Thanks for the info Mark!
If the reactors check okay. I assume I can leave them in the can and move on to the caps.

If the reactor/filter chokes are bad, then there's a fix for that. As it turns out, Bill Werzner from the Houston Vintage Radio Association presented a work-around for the very same set this past Friday. I can email a scan of his mod if you need it.

Thanks Rene!
That would be great. Is there a way I can give you my email address
personally of do I post it on the forum?

You should be able to post your addie here...maybe replace the "@" with "at" so your email address isn't picked up by those programs that scan the internet for email addresses.

:Thanks Rene!
