Silvertone Stereo Model 8078

Hi All, I picked this old home console up off the curb as it was complete and the cabinet was in very good shape just the needle is missing from the tone arm, I figured I would strip it for parts, when I got it home I plugged it in for the heck of it , everything lit up but alas no sound, the tuning meter showed it was receiving a signal so I pulled the amp and found the fuse was blown, replaced and tried and it quickly blew again, did some checking with my VOM and found one of the output transistors was shorted and one of the electrolytics was leaking bad , I replaced the bad parts crossed my fingers and turned it on , it came to life with good audio, after cleaning the controls now I decided to keep as a player for my shop , my dilemma is I would like to get a replacement needle but have nothing to go on except the silvertone model for the changer which is 528-66680 searched the net and have found numerous needles but nothing to match my model or changer and not sure which company made the changer could not find any tags or numbers have no idea what year this is either , any one out there have any info on late 60's silvertones or where I could get some info?
Thanks
Elton

I would bet it is a BSR turntable. Very common, used in lots of different brand systems.
Look for part number ST-16 or ST-17 styles.

If you can pull the cartridge you might find a brand or number on it. Ebay has a vast sellection of sellers and needles. ....Or you could always run it by West Tech Services.

According to the SAMS data for the console, Here is the needle you need if installed cartridge is original. Ebay item number 360107909481. If you search for 2624DS you will find other sellers. Compare and get one. Good price. As said pull the cartridge check for numbers. Ebay cartridge and needle sellers are very helpful.

Elton, that label was most likely done at the factory. Placing a label with needle info somewhere on the changer was one method used. SAMS 965-6 has a date of 6-68. That's close enough for most folks. I don't know the production run. You might find a manufactured date stamped somewhere on your set.

Thanks Bill, Also If I could indulge you , I replaced the NPN output that was shorted with a general purpose trasistor I had lying around since the silvertone numbers don't match to any of the cross refernces books I have, the chassis sticker says need to replace in a matched pair which I did not do , I do notice the channel is a little fuzzy at low volume is it because I did not replace both ? what number transistors does the sams call for on the outputs?
Thanks for your help

Elton you should always replace both output transistors if one tests bad. Sears number being 86-313-2. Replacement GE-13MP and RCA SK3013. X-ref for SK3013 is ECG 121MP. Some I've heard would replace all four output transistors. Others may speak to this?
