Your radio is TRF. Check continuity of your RF coils. Be sure none have been replaced. All 3 stages need to track together.

: I have recently acquired from eBay a Clarion AC-60 "Jr." (Transformer Corp. of America). Someone obviously has done work on it in the past, since when I removed the chassis some of the wiring and components don't seem to match the schematic that I have. The main problems that I have are 1)only one station, at the extreme high end of the dial, about 1500 Kc., is received. It comes in clearly, but nothing is heard all across the rest of the dial. 2) The station sounds rather "tinny". Any thoughts on where to start? Thanks!

If your radio uses audio interstage transformers a secondary may be open. Even with secondary open you may have sound but poor low frequency response.
Check audio coupling caps.
Speakers in early radios didn't have a wide frequency response.

: The ganged tuning capacitor seems to work smoothly without any plates touching each other. The "tinny" sound, I guess, means that it seems to be lacking bass. The pitch does drop when the tone control is used, but it does seem to lack the rich bass tones.
