What's wrong with going to Ebay for used test equipment?
... There are lots of great used Heath-kit signal generators there from time to time for example.
I bought my very reliable and accurate model 1G-102 there for only $40.
You can often find great deals (usually better than eBay) on test equipment at hamfests. You get to actually put your hands on it and look it over before buying. Check here - http://www.arrl.org/hamfests.html -
to find one coming up in your area. Hamfests are much more fun than eBay to boot......
I have seen new units on e-bay for a little over $100. Here is the link

I opted to purchase an older signal generator off of e-bay and then purchased a digital frequency counter from e-bay as well. I spent about $70 for both, which is less expensive than the new unit and I have the accuracy of the frequency counter. Ron
