Volume-Tone Control Replacement

My old Sears radio, Model 1058, Chassis 101.860 has a volume-tone control that is intermittent in operation for the volume. I have sprayed the control and it is good for awhile, but the intermittent operation returns.

I have read in this forum techniques to disassemble and clean a control. However, I would prefer not doing that and would like to purchase a control, if possible. Is there a supplier for this type of dual control?

A schematic for my radio can be found at: http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/652/M0016652.pdf

Thanks,
Jerry

I don't think that is going to be an easy find for a direct replace. What you might be able to do, is get the right resistance volume pot, and use the disk from it to replace your defective disk. But first do try and save your old one. Your going to have to remove it anyway.

Why do you not want to disassemble your control?

They aren't too difficult to disassemble. Your volume control is tapped: not easily replaced. Furthermore, if it's a volume/tone combo, that's even more difficult to replace. The wiper probably isn't making good contact, and simply needs to be realigned, or perhaps the resistance material is worn out (unlikely, but possible). THis either requires patching with some windshield defogger repair paint, or repositioning of the wiper (more likely).

Yes, I suppose I could disassemble it. However, since it is a dual pot with a switch on the rear, I was concerned with all the pieces. So,a replacement was my first thought. But after looking at it more closely, it appears the volume control only will disassemble on its own, so I guess I need to consider that option.

Thanks for the return.
