Testing 572B tubes on an EICO 625
1/12/2009 6:32:04 PMDave Froehlich
Hello All,
Does anyone have the settings for this tube on the EICO?
I'll keep searching.

I have some (Matched Quad) listed on eBay and I put in the description that I'd test them today. So I have to get this done now. If anyone is interested in the listing, please let me know. I'm not sure I'm supposed to say where it is in the forum.
These tubes look like they are brand new but I didn't buy them so I cannot prove that they are new. How can I be sure if they are new or used?

Thanks,

Dave

I don't think you can test a 572 on that kind of tester. First, the filament current is 4 amps. Don't think you can get that much out of an EICO. Also, this tube operates at over 2000 V, so the low voltage available on an EICO wouldn't give you a good characterization. If the filament still works and the plates and glass are not discolored, you probably have a good tube.

Rich,
The plates and glass look like new however one tube looks like it has a crack in it. But the vacuum is good and when I test it on the EICO as an 812, the tube is good.
In fact, they all test good. Your test also puts my mind at ease because eBay is very strict about things. I'll take some close ups of the tubes showing the perfect condition of the tubes and post them to eBay.

Thanks,

Dave

Rich,
Thanks again. I put up close up pictures of the tubes showing no discoloration, the plates and the serial numbers. They sold almost immediately after that.

Thanks very much,

Dave

Rich,
I shipped them out, only to find out that it wasn't the tube with the crack in the glass that had a problem, it was one of the others. I issued a partial refund for the defective tube. The buyer was happy. He also knew that the tube had a 4 amp filament. It couldn't handle the pressure. He said that he put it in his amplifier and it only worked for a few seconds. So maybe that tube had a hidden crack in it. But wouldn't it look white inside if the vacuum seal was broken?
But I made my customer happy gave him a refund on the tube.

Then look at " same base " for this tube. Test as Triode with heater set at 6.3 .. Should give you an emission reading.

Warren,
There are settings for the 811 or 812 tube. This is similar, however it doesn't require the filament current or the plate voltage of a 572B. They tested good on the EICO, but as was pointed out in this thread, that is not a reliable test for a 527B.
