Luprix set
11/13/1998 1:03:49 PMDavid Evans CT4RL
I bought a boatanchor from the fleamarket here in Lisbon some time ago and have decided to have a closer look at it.It looks like a receive converter which I assume must have been used to get broadcast sets on the ham bands-80 to 10 metres. The maker is Luprix and I assume it was Spanish or probably South American because it runs on 110 volts. The osc. freq. is off by 1,6mhz- so I assume you tuned the bc radio to that freq. and then used the converter.Or have I got that wrong? The output IF transformer is half kaputt in any event.Has anybody got the schematic-does anyone know what it is?The line up is EZ 81, ECH 81,ECH 81,EF80, I think...with a beautiful purple glowing stabiliser-OA2..., I think. Sorry I am not absolutely sure... I'm writing this in my office at the end of a long week!! I'd like to get it going again-or maybe( sacrilege) make it into a qrp transmitter or transmitter/receiver.That's probably alienated the purists among you!Grateful for any help-73 David

Hi David,
I don't know anything about your set but it uses European valves (tubes). If your not familiar with them here are the American equivalent numbers: ECH81 ia triode heptode frequency converter, 6AJ8. The EF80 is a sharp cutoff FR pentode, 6BX6. The EZ81 is a full wave vacuum rectifier, 6CA4. The oa2 is 150 volt,5 to30 mA voltage regulator. You might already know this information but if not it may help you find your way around the set. If I can be of any further help, please ask. Don. PS it's an interesting valve lineup, using two converters (one for a BFO perhaps?) and a single sharp cutoff pentode.

Don,many thanks for coming back to me on the Luprix rig. I first thought it might be an outboard VFO but the number of valves smacked of overkill, so I am now convinced it IS a receive converter after all.The make probably gives away the origin...LUprix...Argentina maybe..
The front panel controls are Tuning(sintonia) and Oscillation(oscilacion)
You're probably right about one of the valves being for the bfo...presumably that's why you can control the level of oscillation..but my old Hallicrafters S38 was more sophisticated -you could tune the bfo either side of the signal!
thanks again,Don and 73.David
