Sentinel 309 W Speaker Replacement Needed
1/4/2009 5:39:38 PMBob E.
It's a 3 inch PM speaker in a about a 4 inch square
mount.
Can anyone point me to where I can buy a replacement or if you have one that I can purchase it would be
very much appreciated. The radio is finished and looks great but the speaker really needs help. It just doesn't sound "up to par" as it has quite a few glue patches on it.
Email me from my address posted here if you have one.
Thanks, Bob

I bought a few speakers here. Very good quality and cheap price.

Thanks Warren,
But...I guess what I am looking for would be "more specific" which I neglected to clarify. I would
like a reference to a speaker that would be sort of
"plug and play" if that makes sense. I am still much
of a novice and would not know which item from your
source to choose from or if it would fit into place with only modest modifications like drilling new holes for the support or like that... The closer to exact replacement is what I am hoping for.
thanks, bob

Oh, okay. Just measure from one side of the frame to the other side. The ones listed are that way. I restore the old Hallicrafters radios, and the S-38's use a 5 inch speaker. Drops right in, and can use the original nuts.

Warren,
I am looking at those speakers again. My mount is
3 1/2 in. square and actual cone is 3 inch diameter.
I assume the size column is for the mount size so there is not a 3 1/2 in mount size listed?

:

measure diagonal your square mount frame. That is how the square ones are shown. If it is 3 1/2 they don't have that one. If that's the case I can check with the old radio shop here for what you need.

Warren,
I did not know that speakers are measured "diagonally". Hmmm
..learn something everyday. I will measure it after work and see if one of those will fit afterall.

Warren,
The diagonal distance is 4 inches hole to hole centers.
The side to side and top to bottom holes are 2 3/4 inches on center.
Mount side to side is 3 1/2 inches L to R and Top to Bottom.
Speaker cone diameter is 3 inches
The transformer is mounted under the chassis.
I think the impedance is 4 ohms....

:
I think the 4 inch speaker listed on that web sight will fit right in. As you can see by the picture it's almost square frame. The holes are 4 inch diagonal.
For three bucks and some change, it's worth a try.

Thanks Warren,
I think that wide back would not fit.
I have a fellow radio club member answer my call and is sending me one that should be a good fit.
Thanks for all your research and help. Much appreciated.
Bob
