Mopar 808 Dim Dial Lamps
12/31/2008 1:02:46 AMDave Froehlich
Hello All,
I tried the bulbs mentioned in the SAMs Photofact and they can barely be seen through the lenses over the bulbs. How do I get them brighter. Did the plastic discolor? It's a purplish reddish color.
The bulb designed to illuminate the push buttons doesn't do anything either. It's nice and bright but cannot be seen at all when the nose piece is in place. What's going on. Is there dirt somewhere that's blocking the light?

Thanks,

Dave

I have an 805 which is probably not much different than your 808 as far as illumination goes. There is one bulb that shines through some kind of mask and I think this is supposed to light up the preset indicators just above the push buttons. And then there's two bulbs to illuminate the dial itself. I've disassembled and cleaned everything and the illumination isn't that great. I'm thinking that is maybe just the way they were designed and that the illumination stands out a little better in the dark.

At one time I had a 1953 Chrysler Imperial. I do remember it was positive 6 volt ground, and the radio only had a dim glow at night. It was just enough light to see what station you were on. But it was white light with no tint.
