"Zenith Transoceanic, The Royalty of Radios" by Bryant & Cones, is a good starting place for anyone interseted in ZTOs. Lots of interesting history and some good info on restoration. Test drive a copy at your local library (through an "inter library loan" if they don't have it). Have fun.

Fixing a TransOceanic isn't much different than fixing up any other old radio, they all use variations of the same basic circuits. If you are new to the world of radio repair, I would recommend you procure Marcus and Levy's "Radio Servicing" book (hope I got the title right, I don't have the book here at work). This book does an excellent job describing how each section of a radio operates, troubleshooting guidelines, etc. I am unaware of any step-by-step repair book for the TO. You will be far better off to learn and understand how a radio works, then you can use the knowledge to fix most any old radio.

Chris,

I heartily agree with Rene's comments..."Elements of Radio Servicing" by Marcus & Levy is my favorite old radio repair book. Serious but excellant.
I think the 3rd edition is probably the best, although the one I have (2nd ed.) is very similar and does contain a chapter on portable tube radios, which was exchanged in the third ed. for a chapter on the then rather new transistor portables.
Long out of print, an inter-library loan is again probably your best bet.
