Hi again,
well it occurred to me that my Heathkit signal tracer has binding posts on the front so you can use its output transformer and speaker (DUH!). So, I connected it up, along with a 1K 10 watt resistor to sub for the field coil, threw caution to the wind and powered it up and it works! (I gotta get a variac!). I found and ordered a transformer & speaker at vintage-electronics.com from another Philco model that uses 6V6 push-pull for audio out. Since it has no cabinet & is missing the loop antenna, I think I will order from AES a loop antenna and universal antenna coil to replace the existing one and match the new antenna to the radio.
Should be a fun restoration, it has around 32 wax caps to replace plus the electrolytics, plus all that crud on the chassis... oh, and needs a dial glass...

:Yesterday I picked up a Philco 50-1727 chassis at the local electronics surplus store for $15.00. Looks to be complete with all tubes, just appears to be coated with 58 years worth of crud/cigarette smoke. downloaded the schematic from here, looks like all it will need to be complete is an output transformer (32-8379) & speaker (36-1630) Anybody know where I could find such things or reasonable substitutes? I guess any speaker would do as long as it matches the output of whatever transformer I end up getting.

Hmmm, nothing there... I think all the dial repros that are available are for the older, more popular Philcos. There's a picture of the dial in the Riders info though, with (conveniently) a ruler below it. I think i can reproduce it on the computer, print on transparency and sandwich it between 2 pieces of plexiglass.
Anyway, here's some pics:
Sometimes I feel like one of those people who's always bringing home sick and bedraggled animals to nurse back to health, only with radios

Also, I have had luck with getting a 1941 NOS Philco dial cover from Dave Frush

Good luck.
