Philco Bakelite caps Mod 89 123
12/13/2008 8:51:17 PMBrett S
I’m trying to recap a Philco 89 code 123. I downloaded the charts on Bakelite caps and found the 3793E and 8322B o.k. but can’t find the rest. I figure the 3903AB is .01mfd but don’t know what tabs and I think the 3903T was replaced with 3903OSU and is .01mfd but the tabs aren’t listed. The chart shows three tabs, mine has four, but I think the hold down bolt is being used for a ground and there is a mica cap between it and the next tab which would be number one (or two if the bolt is number one) . Does this sound right? I cant find 4989AH. It appears to be a cap and resistor, perhaps a >09mfd. And finally I think the 8035C is a twin .00011mfd, but the I couldn’t find it on the charts. As you can see I’m new at this and cant read schematics very well, O.K. almost not at all. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi Brett I can help ya.. I use the booklet "PHILCO CONDENSERS AND MORE" (I have copies of this if you wana buy one ANYWAY.. here are some answers:
3903AB= is .01 connected to two mid. tabs
3903osu= is .01 and ia connected to two tabs on ends(mid one is connected to nothing..My info shows only three tabs...but doesn't really matter which ones you choose to use)
Neither the 3903ab or 3903osu are grounded
4989ah= is .09 and .09 (use a .1 for both) They are connected as such= Both go to ground and then each one to other terminals (or one to mid terminal and other to end terminal)
I AM RESTORING (RIGHT NOW) A PHILCO 89 (run 121) SO IF YOU NEED ANYMORE HELP JUST ASK...GLAD TO HELP...I usually pic out all the old potting tar and put new caps in place...Anyway...I have the chars for the old blocks filled with tar and the specs....let me know if you have anymore ????????s
