If so, then I would recommend trying to use a tuner cleaner type spray on the inside of them. It will clean out dirt and debris and will dry up before any damage occurs.

:I have a B.F. Goodrich, Model R643-W,"Mantola" radio which I am trying to bring back to life. It is tuned by two slug tuned coils and the slugs appear to be stuck inside the coil form. Does anyone have a method for loosening these slugs? Otherwise, the radio is junk.
:Thanking all in advance for any suggestions,

:Have you tried to turn them using a proper PLASTIC RF tuning tool?

Thanks for your input Doug and Lou.
These coils are the main tuning mechanism for this set. The dial cord moves a slide up and down to tune the radio over the broadcast band. This slide moves the slugs by means of small wires, (1/16" or less) I can't get to them without removing the entire RF section. The slugs have no way to adjust them.
