Hello everyone. Hope you had a pleasant Thanksgiving.
I'm starting on this '39 Stromberg Carlson model 340. This is a table top but I see that the same chassis was used in console versions too. It's in very restorable condition except for that one little thing that we all run in to. At least I seem to. It looks as if someone set this thing in front of a space heater or something and the plastic bezel that holds the 8 pushbuttons is badly melted. It's too badly deformed to save. Does anyone know where to find parts like this? It has the 8 pushbuttons with the little stars above each and has the green star on the right side for the eye tube and something on the left side that I'm not sure of yet. Some kind of a round window. Any help would be great. Thanks!
Johnny

: I had the same problem with a Stromberg Carlson radio. After several months checking ebay I finally found a distressed console locally with a good escutcheon and push buttons at a good price. I don't think you'll find reproduction parts anywhere.
Go to collectibles/radios on ebay and search stromberg carlson every week. Good Luck

I purchased a 1940 S/C 515M AM/FM/SW w/the Acoustcal Labyrinth chamber from Craigslist last year. It was built here in Rochester about 1/8 mile from where I live. The factory still stands and now houses Harris/RF Communications where I work. The old plastic bezel was shrunk slightly and cracked at the screw holes. I was able to fill, smooth and paint the bezel to look good, but some warpage is still present. I would love to be able to soften and reform it, but I think I'll have to live with it as is. See the magtel.com website for some Stromberg-Carlson conversation. You may find some help there. Best of luck to you.

:Hi again Johnny; in going through my notes, the SC console I got on ebay was a 340W, a small corner console unit. I believe I have the plastic bezel (escutcheon). I'll have to search my garage to see what kind of condition it is in. My experience with Stromberg Carlson is that they were high quality sets and perform very well; certainly worth restoring if possible. You can contact me by clicking on my name for my email address. I can provide more information about this chassis. As I recall the green 'star' lights up when electric (pushbutton tuning) is selected. The round hole is where you position the eye tube.
