Restoring Zenith 4B231 Vibrator Radio

I'm looking for some help in restoring a vibrator radio. From what I understand, I must apply full 6 volts to the radio. Are there checks I can perform first to test the vivrator?

With the vibrator out, you can apply 6 volts to it. If it does the buzz thing, it's working. Sometimes the contact points in it weld shut. You can still get new 6 volt vibrators.

I've seen various posts regarding the use of a computer power supply. Would 5 volts sufficiently operate a vibrator radio?

Brian,
Typically computer supplies are switching power supplies, and don't think you would want one of those near an AM radio. Some of earlier supplies radiated enough hash to cover the spectrum DC to light.
