Self etching primer

Hello All,
I am getting ready to start on a Zenith 7 S 232 and the dial faces will need to be decaled(sp?)I was told to use self etching primer as an undercoat before using black laquer What is self etching primer, where can I get it and how do you use it? I will be getting the decals from Radiodaze and will use microsol and microset.

Thanks for the link, kind of pricy but the Zenith is worth it.

Where did you hear self etching primer was needed for this application? It's overkill unless you plan on using this set outside all the time. Rough the clean metal with some 220 grit sandpaper and apply regular primer, then the black lacquer.

Was advised by someone who has done many of the same radio(must be a common problem but I have never seen it on any of my Zeniths). Says it makes a big difference. As I have never applied decals to any of my radios especially such largs ones for these shutter dials, I thought I had better cast about for some advice from those who had done it before.
