This radio was the worst basket case I have ever worked on. The list of troubles seemed endless:
1. Bad detector tube and several RF tubes
2. No line cord (and plug)
3. Metal dial cord snapped
4. TRF tuning condenser frozen
5. Wirewound volume control bad
6. Pot metal dial partially collapsed
7. Open resistor in the power supply
8. No pilot lamp bulb
9. Loose knobs (missing inserts)
10. Missing lamp hood
I have fixed up thru #7. After a coating of shellac on the case, I will be fixing #8, #9 and #10.
It CAN be done (with LOTS of patience)!!

:Well, the Radiola 18 chassis is ready to be reinstalled in its' wooden case. The chassis is working well.

Lou, How did you free up the tuning condensor? I have a Model 20 Majestic that is on its way to locking up.
Thanks,
Jon.
Jon
I put sewing machine on the assembly and let it sit for several days. (Any light machine oil will do). Then, try to work loose the assy , gently, if it does not move reapply the oil and wait. Do NOT use anything stronger , like WD 40 unless ALL the parts involved are metal.

I googled Majestic Model 20 and got a great three page dissertation from someone on all the troubles they had restoring one.
If you cannot find it, I would gladly fax it to you.
Thanks

:Jon ..I see that you mentioned a Majestic 20...I have one on the bench and am confused about a certain part(s).(I am hoping you have restored this radio)..That part being the large bock of caps sealed in tar. (I have this section completely removed from chassie.) I have the schematic that states color codes of wires..and can see where they conect to lugs on the block and that they all go to ground..I have lifted off the top of block (brown board) and see other wires that go to other lugs. My question is...all the other lugs what are they connected to underneath the block board? (I know tow are connected to a coil..but not sure about what others are....PLEASE HELP.... OHH and also ..the transformer in the other block...what reading should i get off the two leads...right now i get nothing..should i get something?? THANKS FOr ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE!!!

THAT is an understatement.
I almost broke every bone in my body lifting up this table radio. I assume tables in those days were much stronger than they are today.
Well, anyway, mine DOES work after a fashion. I do have quite a bit of hum in the unit and have some work to do.
Lou
:Ohh say Jon...when you pull apart the bottom ...There is one can that just has a transformer in it (It has only two leads going to the large filter/transformer block)...Mine ..I belive is bad ...I get no reading when i hook up to meter..let me know if yours is good and what the reading should be THANKS!!!
