Hi all ..I recently aquired a 1937(?) Silvertone model 4505.. Under the chassie it was rebuilt... The radio works fine. If you look at the schematic it originaly had a 100 watt resistor (R7) replaced with a 10 ohm resistor. Also a block capacitor with 3 sections in it (8mf, 8mf, 8mf..all have commmon ground (c4, c12,c10). Underneath my chassie someone took two 15mf caps and put one + end to the other caps - end (while other two ends go off to radio circut) What is the purpose of this???

Get your favorite electronics book out (or do a google search) and read up on capacitors in series. What exactly is your background in old radios/electronics?

Capacitors in series are like resistors in parallel. The capacitance goes down. They probably didn't have the right value so the 2 15uF caps in series would be like a 7.5uF to the circuit.
