Crosley Super Tridyn Special - Battery hook up
10/29/2008 2:31:35 PMDave Froehlich
Hello All,
I was just handed a Crosley Super Tridyn receiver. Will this work on a 6 v car battery for A (filament) and 9 volt-AA cell combination batteries for the other voltages? Or do I need something with more current for B+ and C- voltages? I believe the filaments will draw 3/4 of an amp all together. D-Cells wouldn't last too long.
This set looks to be in very good condition. I don't see any paper capacitors to replace. I haven't checked the grid-leak resistor yet.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave: That plan will work. But check the voltage requirements: 9V sounds high for C-? The C- battery provides no current, so the battery will last its shelf life. The B+ battery won't last too long.

If you're going to get into battery powered TRFs, best to get a battery eliminator. AES sells a kit. More info here: http://www.enginova.com/batt_elim.htm
