Electrolydics polarity
10/27/2008 10:38:32 PMDan Livesay
Hello:
I am trying to restore an RCA model 300 radio record player.I have not been able to get the polarity right on the five electrolydics. If someone could send me an email with a marked schematic I would certainly appreciate it. My email is listed.

Hi Dan:

I thought I'd just take a quick helpful peek at your schematic and try to lend a little help.
.. but trying to decipher that screwy old-style drawing has me pulling my hair out.
Pardon me now...while I look for a gun to shoot myself ... sorry.. I didn't think I'd be that confused....lol

That is one hard to follow schematic. Pass me the gun when you're done!

That just about HAS to be the worst schematic I have ever seen.

Fustest. . .considering that. . . I AM using the correct schema,. . .and I DO see the pony-graf moder down at the bottom. . . . .

Looks like you are going to be reworking a voltage -doub-li-mi-fier-a-cating power supply system.

All of the relevant filter capacitors have been located and marked up.

Nicely done, as usual.
So the motor runs all the time, even if the radio is being used?

Wow... glad to see I'm not alone here in the insane asylum that I quickly checked myself into after reading that print!

EDD ... yes! You are "the man"... but even though you've explained it as a voltage doubler and marked it up nicely... my feeble brain still can't figure out how that rectum-fire is working!.
Seems that the right-plate and left-cathode are tied together? connected to AC and the left-plate is the ground? and the right-cathode is DC?... huh?

Please shoot me again...lol

Peter:
What we have here is a plain ole full wave bridge Voltage doubler, with C18 and C19 being the doubling capacitors. It looks like a full wave diamond rectiifier, with the right hand diodes replaced by caps. Redraw it and it will make a whole lot more sense.
