Hello everyone. I am restoring this broadcast table top and noticed that one of the larger caps, is wrapped in a black wire and is shown as a "choke" on the schematic, but it just looks like a large cap. Is it safe to replace this capacitor with another of like value/ What do I do with the black wire that is wrapped around about half of the cap?
Any comments would be appreciated.

Didn't look at the print but guessing that it's a wavetrap for trapping maritime signals from days gone by that used to range around the IF frequency. I have a 40-120 with a cap/coil combo and ended up just placing a similar number of turns on the replacement cap.

Dave,
I found the same problem on a 48-460, and the docs said it was resonant at about 455kc. Calculated the inductance required to resonate with the cap, and wound a separate coil in series with the cap. Radio works fine, but don't know if I was on target or not.
