The color laser copiers work well, and with good results. The only problem you may have is convincing the copy center people that the face plate will not scratch the glass (remember your Mhos scale of hardness from geology: an iron nail is relative 6 and glass is relative 7, where diamond is 10.
You could try using a color scanner too, and printing the output on tha Canon color ink jet printer that claims to have waterproof ink.
You may want to contact the Hallicrafters society too, someone may have already made the labels.
: I have a Hallicrafters S-40A I am trying to restore. The metal cabinet will likely have to be stripped and repainted, meaning I will somehow have to re-do the silk screened labels (i.e. "sensitivity", "avc on-off", etc.) on the front panel. Does anyone have any ideas on how to best replace these labels? I was thinking of matching the font as closely as possible using Word and then printing on a sheet of translucent label-type paper, cutting out the labels and then applying them to the panel. I had to do this on the bandspread dial and it worked well.
