Marshall Field & Co. radio is actually a _what_?
10/4/2008 8:37:01 PMSteve Keidl
I am trying to determine what brand made this small wooden tabletop SW radio (1936-ish).
I can't really read the schematic well enough to see if it is a model 58 or 38.
I tried to search the site with no results for "Marshall Field" and "Model 58 (or 38)" I'm suspecting that it is made by someone else. Anyone have a suggestion of how to go about searching for its true identity?

Don’t know the answer to that one, except there’s at least one other wood cabinet M.F. still out there, possibly similar to yours.

. . .. in Madison. . .only 25 Amellican Dollah !

Heheh. Funny thing is, that's the radio I just bought on craigslist! (the very exact same one)

I thought these were Wells Gardner built

I don't know for certain, but Wells-Gardner would be a good guess. Both W-G and Fields were located in Chicago, and W-G specialized in making sets for department store labels.

Another possiblility is the mysterious Plant A, also located in Chicago.

I finally figured it out (in case anyone was also wondering, which might be unlikely). It's the same as a Howard model 58.
