I have gotten one radio from a family member and fixed it up and am hooked on tube radios. I see radios for sale on ebay but they seem overpriced. Where is a good place to find decent radios at a good price? I cant seem to find a good source

I find most of mine at yard sales.

I am not above pulling one out of the trash at the curb waiting for pickup.

I started with (and continue to collect) farm radios which are not as popular with some collectors and will gladly sell as they may have obtained some in lot sales. Getting to know collectors, antique dealers and they will keep you in mind.

Hi, I picked up 5 radios from one seller on Craigslist last weekend and got them cheap. 2 Zeniths, a Atwater Kent, a Philco, and a Airline tombstone. All wood cabinets from the 30's - 40's. The 7-S-634 Zenith is in stellar condition along with a 1946 Philco and a model 46 Atwater Kent in excellent condition all working. I check out Craigslist and Ebay when I have some spare change lying around. I will be looking in on Craigslist alot more. Saved at least 100 dollars on shipping charges. He was just a regular guy that had no idea what he had. I know I'm bragging but there are some GREAT deals out there and you don't have to go far to find them. Happy Hunting, George T.

Check and see if you have a local radio club in your area. You might be able to pick some up there from the members.
Also, antique malls carry radios, at least in my area.
Good luck!

:Well here's what I did a year ago when I got into these things. Here in the great northwest (and I believe in many other parts of this great country)there is a place on the internet called "Craigslist". It's free advertising and I put an ad on there stating "Wanted-Dead Or Alive" Antique Wooden Radios. After three months I had spent my life savings and had to remove the ad. Response was overwhelming and I never paid more then $70 for a radio and that was for a working 1931 Airline Highboy in very good condition.

My Dad gave me a few (I will keep those forever), a few were given as gifts, and a few came from flea markets but the vast majority of my sets came from local radio club auctions (HVRA, VRPS).

Peter,
How does this search work? I use Vintage or Antique
Tube Radio for a search but I do not get the more desireable results that your search gets. What does the "items/1930-49__W0QQ_sacatZ38034 mean? Just curious.
I notice you do not get auctions for tubes this way
either.
Is this a separate auction classification?

Try this. Go to the primary Ebay search section then select these options.

Ok I thought that might be the case. I rarely go
to the specific search sections... Thanks, Bob

One more thing you can do to, use peter's search criteria then use the tab for " distance" Put in your zip and how far you would like the search to extend.
I like to buy radios that are a at or under a days drive from me. I then send an inquiry to the seller about picking up in person. If he is not ok with this I suspect a problem and do not bid. If the seller is ok with it I go for it. This takes care of several issues. Damage from shipping, delayed shipping, and of course if the item is not as described you handle that right on the spot.

Good point. I have been burnt a couple of times although not too badly. It was mostly my fault for not
reading the description thoroughly. Bad Habit..
