Voltage in a Majestic Grundig
9/28/2008 9:17:12 PMJohn J Foley
Hi,

I have a Model 7015 floor model with turntable. I recently got it, recapped it, etc. It has an inline fuse rated .5 amps 110v. When I plug it in the wall, the fuse blows. When I run it up my variac isolation transformer, I take it to the original 110 volts, and it runs fine. Do I really have short problem, or is my fuse amp wrong? This unit was rated based on 110 volt source. We now generate at 120 volts. Could this volt increase cause higher wattage in the system, causing me to have to rate the fuse higher?

Could it be ok only because its on an isolation transformer? Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

John

Hi John

Fuse rating of .5 amps is most likely too small for your radio. Most radios will need 1 amp or larger.

Another possible problem. If your radio has a power transformer there can be a surge at turn on. Depending on where in a cycle the switch is turned on a fuse can blow. Slo-blo fuses take care of this problem.
