So are the orange drops and the blue filter caps OK? Thanks

In regards to the badcaps post below? If so, then, yes they are OK. I think the main problem is in low esr caps used in modern products like motherboards, it was alittle off topic. I don't think they were ever used in vintage circuits.

When you refer to "orange drops" I guess you mean the Sprague/SBE #715P polypropylene film coupling caps. Personally, I've never used those anyway because I don't like the way they sound. My favorite Sprague/SBE film coupling cap is the #225P polyester. The color isn't important but the polyester film part is, it's the best replacement that I've found and it really doesn't matter who makes it, mallory makes good ones too, but they're yellow...

Thanks, Charlie, I have found the website and asked for a catalog. I do not think I could tell if 'they' sound better. But I will try anyway. Best wishes.

Del, I meant that to help us understand which new parts are correct for vintage circuits. I think the orange drops are one of Sprauges product lines designed for early circuit boards and includes several types of film caps. I did try alot of caps on a phono amp(12AX7/6V6) by hooking them to a terminal strip and polyester or mylar matched what I repair the best with polypropylene being a close second, ceramic was a distant third and silver mica is pretty bad, very harsh treble. Mylar was the smoothest highs, hands down, and seems to be used the most. Right now I have a 1965 Gibson amp from their upper end and they did used Sprague 225P for the Mylar caps to stuff this eyelet board.

I'm sorry Del, that was a typo on my part.
