Help with getting schematic and dating radio
9/15/2008 8:32:05 AMSteve Bento
I picked up this radio that I'm having trouble finding any info on - especially the schematic. It's a Grebe radio - it looks like a cross between a cathedral and a tombstone so it probably dates to the early 30's sometime. On the silver sticker on the chassis it says Licensed by Radio Corp of America and Hazeltine Corp. Model 70 Serial #15414 Mfd by (the name was scrapped off?) Doing some research into the Grebe co. I found out that the company went bankrupt in 1932 and AH Grebe died in 1935 so I guess the radio is older than that. I searched on this site and techpreservation but can't find the Model 70. Since it was licensed by RCA, there should be an RCA equivalent design and schematic. Does anyone know what the RCA equivalent might be or where to look to find it?

Thanks, Steve

Very good idea. I haven't taken it apart yet, but I should be able to get to that soon. All I remember was that there was a globe tube with bluish tint to it and i remember thinking - I bet this tube is going to be an expensive one to replace if I have to replace it ;)
