REPLY TO EDDIE HICKOK 600A METER

I took apart a 600A meter and found the same problem. My guess would be instant glue because it flows so easily. You would have to find a way (such as a needle type syringe) to get a precise amount on the tape.Since the coil will have some preload on it this is very delicate work. The print left by the tape is a clue on the alignment of the parts.I was not successful. My solution: Order a brand new meter from WWW.alltubetesters.com (yes they are available for close to $200 including shipping).I figure, if I keep the receipt, I'll increase the value of my tester by that amount.New transformers are also available along with a bunch of other goodies!!At least this way the tester can be returned to almost new condition.Good Luck!

Wow, I have a 600A also but I never knew about the meter issues. If the meter hasn't broken yet, is it possible to add a drop of instant glue now to prevent futher damage?

Thanks for the reply. Hearing the $200 makes me REALLY anxious to try it and get it right - but too intimidated to do it until I know "everything" - so it could be awhile! What went wrong with your attempted repair?
By the way, there is a meter shop in Midland Texas that is willing to look at those - but they say it could run anywhere from $ 50 to $ 200 or ???
Thanks,
Eddie

: What went wrong is that the coil needs to be preloaded a little and my hand shook and that was it.I recommend wearing a magnifier also.I saw some gel type instant glue in the store today and wondered if that would be easier to control.I still say it is best to bite the bullet on the new meter and have a more reliable tester. But there is no better way to learn then to attempt to repair the old part.I would not take apart a meter that is working. It is too risky even for a pro!!!! regards BOB
