Most of these record players use a crystal cartridge. They go bad over time with changes in temperature. Check with companies like West-Tech Services 888 828-8455. They can rebuilt the cartridge.

Your radio is probably mono and as such, should have a cartridge with two pins. If the cartridge is the problem, touching the two pins should produce a loud hum. If no hum is heard, you may have other problems.
